A Greeting from the Organizing Committee Of ANZA-IJSL
On behalf of the ANZA-IJSL Organizing Committee, I would like to wish you a warm welcome, or return, to ANZA Soccer for the 2009-2010 season! The Australia-New Zealand Association International Junior Soccer League is the largest and longest continuously operating youth soccer program in Singapore. Our program has been in existence in its current form since 1976, having taken over from an earlier children’s soccer league formed by the Armed Forces (which helps explain the tradition of our team names). The coming season will mark ANZA-IJSL’s 33rd consecutive year of putting smiles on young faces, from our U-5 players up to our most senior fans (proud grandmothers and grandfathers passing through on a family holiday). And we aim to make it a better and even more memorable experience for all than ever before.
The purpose of ANZA-IJSL is to provide an enjoyable experience to all players who would like a kick of the ball, no matter what their skill level. Satisfying the different levels of player experience is one of the greatest challenges of both the program and of every ANZA-IJSL coach. During the coming season, the organizing committee will take further efforts to prepare our coaches for this challenge. Role modelling and respect will be the overriding bywords, as they should be, for the program is an intrinsic part of the social and personal development of our enthusiastic participants.
For those of you who have been with us in the past, there will be a lot of familiar aspects to our program. But we will be announcing some new additions of which we are studying the feasibility now. One example is a feasibility study to be able to include more young ladies into the program. We already have a reasonable contingent of girls, as ANZA-IJSL is a co-ed program, but we would like to see more. Anyone interested in this, even if your daughter is already in the program, I would like to hear all comments and suggestions you might have. We are also doing a feasibility study related to what are being termed “Competition Teams” which would represent ANZA in other local competitions and leagues, and we expect that there will be an announcement about this soon. So please watch the website for further announcements.
During the last weekend in February 2010, we will also see ANZA-IJSL’s participation in the 22nd edition of the Southeast Asia Cup Tournament which will be held by the Southeast Asia Youth Soccer Association and hosted by ANZA-IJSL. A prestigious event with a select group of our U-13, U-15 and U-18 players, we encourage everyone to cheer on our teams.
And we also expect that we will see the 3rd running of the Novotel-ANZA Tournament which this year saw the participation of 64 teams from around the region.
So welcome to the 33rd edition of ANZA-IJSL. Your contributions of time, expertise and sponsorship to making this yet another successful season are gratefully acknowledged for, without them, this experience would not be possible. So let us all enjoy together the competition, and an air of friendship and good sportsmanship between all teams.
Let the games begin!
