ANZA-IJSL Embarks on a New Era of Involvement in Singapore Football

ANZA-IJSL recently associated with the Football Association of Singapore for the first time in our 34 year history. And our U-16 and U-18 teams immediately received invitations to the 2009 FAS COE Challenge Cup which includes 5 S-League teams' youth squads, 2 of the leading Football Academies of Singapore and one top educational institution.

The inaugural matches were played on 15 November, with our U-16's drawn against the highly respected Home United U-16s in a hotly competitive division which also includes teams from SAFFC and Geylang United. As the S-League teams play the year-round and the ANZA teams only began formation 2 months ago, it was expected that the match would turn into a fitness contest. After an early lead, the ANZA U-16 Lions went into the half-time dressing room trailing on a late Home United goal. Late in the second half, the fitness battle took its toll, and the Lions went down on a 1-7 score. Overall, the result had been expected and was a good learning experience for next year.

The next match for an ANZA Lions team will be on the 18th, Wednesday at the St Wilfred Field when the ANZA U-18 Lions meet the SAFFC U-18s.

The next match for the ANZA U-16 Lions will be on the 21st, Saturday, at 11AM against another top team - Geylang United U-16s. The match will be held at the ISA Pitch #4, just near our car park. So it will be very convenient for our ANZA Supporters to get out and cheer on the U-16s!

And mark the date 28 November when, at 9AM, our ANZA U-18 Lions will be playing Geylang United U-18s at the Jalan Besar Stadium, the preferred stadium for Liverpool's training when they came to Sinngapore this past July.

Please come out to support our teams!!!!
