ANZA U-16s Chalk Up First Ever Win in FAS COE Challenge Cup and U-18s Make Their Mark

Our ANZA-IJSL U-16s started out Saturday morning with only 8 players against a full squad for Geylang United, a highly-respected, highly disciplined team. Calls were made to locate missing team members who were “on the way”. When the dust settled at the end of the match, our ANZA boys fought on to a 2-1 win, their first ever in the FAS COE Challenge Cup, without the help of a deep bench of substitutes. And that night, they were firmly nestled in 3rd place in their division.

Congratulations to those with the character to persevere against the odds, and to their coach, Peter Warburton, who inspired them to such a result!

The U-16s have one more match remaining, against another formidable opponent, SAFFC U-16s. Don’t miss the action at the ISA Turf City pitch, this coming Thursday, the 26th of November, at 5PM.

And our U-18s opened their tournament with a very respectable 0-2 loss to the SAFFC U-18s, one of the top teams in Singapore. Congrats to Coach Nick Czolak and the entire team! But there was no post-game celebration as one of the team’s key players, Louis Speelmans, was stretchered off with a knee injury which will keep him out for the remainder of the season. Everyone at ANZA-IJSL wishes Louis a speedy and full recovery.

NOTE CHANGE OF DATE: On Thursday, the 26th, the U-18s will meet Tampines Rovers at the Jalan Besar Stadium at 7PM, and will close the group stage against Geylang United, last year’s runners up, also at the Jalan Besar Stadium at 9AM.

So please note the remaining dates. Please come out to support our teams!!!!

Let’s Go, Lions!
